CRAWFORD AND NELSON SET FOR VEGAS
There is a saying not to long ago that stated “ Omaha supports Omaha”. The meaning behind the phrase is the constant resurrection of Nebraska Boxing becoming alive and putting a record number of youth/adults joining several boxing gyms along the way. Two Omaha youngsters growing up, best friends since childhood, both struggling with behaviors in and out of school, made promises to one another that no matter what...that one day they would be reunited and this time the spot light would belong to them.
You see gone are the public record posts, neighborhood complaints and Principal phone calls, those days are the past.....the future is filled with this Saturday's mega HBO PPV event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Terence “Bud” Crawford 28-0 (20), aka the Pride of Omaha, makes his HBO PPV debut against fellow undefeated Victor “Ice Man” Postol 28-0 (12) of Ukraine, in a scheduled 12 RD Unification showdown. Crawford will put up his WBO Jr Welterweight strap, while Postol's WBC Super Lightweight belt is on the line. Both are ranked as the #1 and #2 140 lb fighters in the World. This truly is the best facing the best.
Fresh off his easy 1st rd knock out over late replacement Ricky Reed 0-2 ,back in May on B&B Boxing Promotions in Omaha, former Army Specialist and veteran, Steven “So Cold” Nelson 2-0 (2), will appear on the same card as his child hood buddy in Crawford. Nelson will face Texas based Tim Meeks 5-2-1 (3) in a 4 RD Light Heavyweight contest.
Nelson was an amazing talent as an amateur and represented Team USA the past few years, nearly making the Olympics on several occasions. Nelson has already made a name for himself by giving excellent work for current P4P champion Andre Ward in camp earlier this year. Just like when his buddy Terence, who landed his big breakthrough while helping Tim Bradley in camp a few years ago.
Meanwhile, Nelson's opponent, Meeks, is no slouch and has won 3 in a row. Nelson has vowed to take on tough challenges and prove to Top Rank and HBO officials that he is definitely worthy of being on this type of big stage. Nelson vs Meeks will be the opening bout. It is very fitting that Nelson will open the show and Crawford will close the show
Can Postol give Crawford his biggest test? Will Postol's height and jab be the difference? Will Crawford's boxing IQ and ability to adapt be the difference? Will Crawford cement his legacy and his critics with an explosive performance?
Those are all questions that fight fans and the boxing world will have to wait and see but for now this story is about childhood adversity, loyalty, friendship, and “Omaha Supporting Omaha”.
Omaha and fight fan's lets make the MGM feel like the Centurylink!!!! Grab your tickets or order it on PPV and celebrate with your friends because the story of Crawford and Nelson is far from being finished.....a matter of fact, this is just the beginning.
